This wedding is special to me for several reasons. First of all, it's the first time in YEARS that I have shot a wedding of a personal friend of mine. I have grown quite a bit as a content creator and as a wedding filmmaker since shooting my last friend's wedding. And I was super excited to bring my new skillset up to the burbs to capture my buddy Josh and his wife (Maryah)'s special day.
I approached this wedding a bit differently than I have with weddings in the past. Instead of creating a "highlight film" this wedding film was created with much more of a documentary approach. Instead of fast edits that are fun and upbeat that resemble a music video, this edit hangs on sentimental moments and is driven by narrative. A narrative provided by friends and family through sound bites captured throughout the day.
Typically I create wedding films with the audio captured during the ceremony and reception. I did use the audio captured from those iconic moments, but I also took a moment to pull some of the bridal party aside and get a few 1 on 1 interviews as well. This extra effort allowed me the opportunity to create more of a story driven highlight that shares some personal insight from those who are closest to the bride and groom. And I think it is my finest wedding film to date.
Another added level of attention to detail was required when putting this together, because Josh, the groom, is also a filmmaker. So I knew going into this that the final edit would be judged and scrutinized in a much more technical manner than you would receive from your typical couple. So an extra level of effort and detail was used to ensure a high quality end product.
From the Indigo Hotel in Naperville to the Bolingbrook Golf Club, the western Chicago suburbs provided the perfect backdrop for this magical early July wedding. Huge shout out to Erik Poston for providing a second eye behind the camera and to Heather McDaniels for being fantastic to work with on the photo side of the house. DJ Black Jack held it down on the 1s and 2s as the bridal party and friends and family of the bride and groom danced the night away.
The reception space was absolutely beautiful, the ceremony was just right and the night as a whole was just phenomenal. A highlight of the evening had to be the raining sparkler pyro effects the couple surprised their guests with out on the golf course. This wedding was nothing short of amazing and I am so grateful to have been a part of it. Thank you again to Josh and Marayah for allowing me the privilege and opportunity to capture their monumental day. Cheers again to the bride and the groom...!!
